FOR THE THINKING MAN: SCIENCE BEHIND OUR TRADITIONS & BELIEFS

How many of us have rolled our eyes when asked to apply Mehendi for a wedding? Or perhaps, changed the direction in which we sleep just to honour our paranoid parents who think it will lessen our intelligence if our head doesn’t face a particular direction? What if we told you that Science, our go-to guy whenever we need a reasonable explanation of things, says so too?

Here is a list of some of the most common traditions and beliefs held by society that surprisingly, have a basis in Science. Want to know how? Read on.

  • The Post-Funeral Bath

taking bath after funeral@TheRoyaleIndia

Source: blogspot.com

Nope, no ghosts or spirits have accompanied you home that soap and water will rid you off. Science says that a dead body decomposes which leaves various bacteria and viruses in the air. The very same science (and common sense) says that having these harmful entities stuck on you can lead to health concerns. Hence, a bath is the most simple and the easiest way to prevent you from getting sick.

  • The Peepal Tree Worship

worshipping peepal tree @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: quoracdn.net

You might’ve seen family, friends, or colleagues deifying worshipping the huge Peepal tree. The Myth says that it’s where the souls of our forefathers reside; Science says that the Peepal tree is one of the very few trees that generate oxygen even at night, something that other CO2 converting trees cannot do in the absence of sunlight. This makes the Peepal tree highly advantageous and hence, an object of reverence. This doesn’t mean you should tie a sacred thread around its trunk, but that’s a topic for another day!

  • Tossing a Coin into the Water

throwing coins into the river@TheRoyaleIndia

Source: tumblr.com

Millions believe that tossing a coin into the river, especially a holy one like the Ganges will bring the person good luck. The science behind this tradition is interesting. In the olden times, coins were made of copper, an element crucial for our body, and the rivers were the only source of water. The wise old men of those times perhaps thought that throwing these coins into the water will ensure a steady intake of the metal in our body. Although not very pertinent in our times of stainless steel coins, this tradition continues to live.

  • Sindoor & Toe Ring for Married Women

married women sindoor toe ring@TheRoyaleIndia

This one might elicit a few laughs and sniggers! The second finger of your toe hosts a certain nerve that passes through the uterus and heart. Apparently, wearing a metal ring on this finger helps strengthen the uterus and helps regulate the menstrual cycle. Ladies, beware of your mother-in-law gifting you toe rings! As for the Sindoor, since it is a mix of lime, turmeric, and mercury– a metal that is supposed to activate your sexual drive– it is ‘recommended’ to be applied in married women’s hair partition!

  • Joining the Palms as a Greeting

hindu traditions science namaskar@TheRoyaleIndia

Source: s.isha.ws

A prominent way of showing respect to the opposite person, joining the palms has a much more scientific backing. When all the tips of the fingers join, it activates some pressure points which are good for memory. The long and short of it, the chances of you remembering the person increase with a simple ‘Namaskar’. Perhaps, try to study in this position?

  • Henna at the Wedding

henna mehendi on hands feets of bride @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: blogspot.com

Henna is known to lower the temperature of the body, helping you literally ‘keep calm’ as your wedding prep goes on. Applying Mehendi on the hands and feet ensures that your nerves don’t become tense as you stress about the D-Day. A good reason to apply Mehendi on other days too, right?

  • Pheras around the Holy Fire

phere around fire during marriage @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: xogrp.com

Anyone who has ever sat in the mandap knows the sweltering heat and smoke produced by the holy fire. This mild annoyance at the tradition will fade away as you understand the reasoning behind it. Fire is known to cleanse the air around by killing the harmful bacteria in it. It symbolises pure air, as much as it symbolises the pure bond between the couple getting married.

There, now that you know the science behind some of our traditions and beliefs, maybe your raised eyebrows can come down a little?

Nitesh Tiwari gave the world ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ in 2015 and this year’s Dangal has raised the bar. After a lot of mainstream commercial rom-com cinema, Dangal brings you the rustic ‘Mitti Ki Khushboo’ from the Akhada in Haryana. The movie begins with Mahavir who dreamt of winning gold in wrestling but fails to do so. He decides to pass on the dream to his son but is disappointed when his wife gives birth to four daughters. Geeta won her Gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games; the movie reminds the world of her glorious victory this December.

Coming from a state like Haryana where women are treated secondary to men and have no power over their bodies or themselves, Geeta Phogat’s story is undoubtedly the one that the world needs to hear. Belonging to a family where Mahavir, her father believes that his wrestling dream failed since he didn’t have a son; one small incident changes their life for the better.

Geeta portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Babita Kumari portrayed by Sanya Malhotra do justice to the characters as well as the sport. These fresh faces made sincere efforts on screen, and Aamir Khan compensates for everything else. Aamir Khan is the classic character in the movie, reinforcing his perfectionist label yet again.

The movie is an autobiography of the Phogat family, a story about breaking the age-old male dominance over sports, a story about strength and determination.

SOLVED: SIX LITTLE MYSTERIES OF OUR EVERYDAY BODILY MECHANISMS

$

0

While evolution may itself remain a mystery and a question for some, the fact that our body has evolved to cope with the changing times is not often countered. How often have we been on the verge of sleeping after an exhausting day and woken up with a jerk? Or perhaps, cursed our hiccups for not stopping when you’re trying to focus on solving a problem? Sometimes, our body seems to be acting on its own accord. However, there is usually a reason for most of our body’s actions. Here are a few of the body’s common actions and the science of reason behind it:

1. Yawning

Why do we yawn @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: dailymail.co.uk

Recent research has proven that yawning is not an idiopathic as we previously believed. Yawning helps to thermoregulate our brain. Essentially, it helps to keep our brain ‘cool’. This is also why we yawn when we are sleepy or bored; they are associated with our brain’s temperature fluctuations.

Bodys defense mechanism yawning @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: kidspot.com.au

This is also the reason for what we know as ‘contagious yawning’. People in the same room yawn because they are experiencing the same temperature. When your professor or boss reprimands you for yawning in the middle of a class or meeting, just let them know its happening as they are boring!

2. Hiccups

Bodys defense mechanism hiccups @TheRoyaleIndia

When the diaphragm is irritated, it spasms which causes those annoying hiccups. The irritation is the result of a disturbance in the nerve pathways between the brain & the diaphragm which explains why we hiccup when we are stressed or experiencing some emotionally charged situation. Too much excitement, anxiety, eating too much, swallowing a lot of air are some of the reasons for the cause of the irritation. So, the next time someone says that you’re hiccupping because your loved one is missing you, just spread some knowledge, will you?

3. Pruned fingers & toes

Bodys defense mechanism wrinkled hands water @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: kinja-img.com

This is why you need to love evolution (again, if you believe in it!). You may have noticed your fingers & toes wrinkling, or more specifically- pruning- when they’ve been wet for more than 5-10 minutes. This pruning, according to neurobiologists is to enable man to have a better grip on surfaces in wet conditions. Perhaps, the man of millenniums gone by needed better grip to climb trees and mountains as it rained!

4. Sneezing

Bodys defense mechanism sneezing @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: top10homeremediesnatural.com

This is why most characters hiding from a goon in some movie are caught: they sneeze at the wrong time. Although this involuntary action may be ill-timed, it is quite a handy defence mechanism of our body. When an irritant such as pet dander, pollen, smoke, dust, or other allergen enters our nose, we sneeze so that these potential health hazards don’t reach our lungs and other internal organs to contaminate them. At around 93mph, the rate at which our nose expulses air is no joke. Take a bow, nose!

5. Stretching

Why do we stretch in the morning @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: squarespace.com

If checking your Facebook notifications is not the first thing you do on waking up, the only other thing you must be doing is stretching. But why do we almost instinctively stretch on waking up? Science says this is because when we sleep, some fluid tends to accumulate along our back. Stretching is our body’s way of carefully directing this fluid back to its original place. Furthermore, stretching helps to realign your muscles after it has spent a considerable amount of time being inactive and to get the blood flow going.

6. Hypnic jerks

Bodys defense mechanism sleep jerk @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: pixel.nymag.com

You may have cursed these as you try to sleep after a long day at work. Just as you are on the verge of falling asleep, your body suddenly decides to wake you up like a jerk, with a jerk. No, you shouldn’t be cursing your body for it simply because it thinks it is trying to save you.

Feel like falling during sleep hypnic jerk @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: glossglam.com

Just as we are falling asleep, our body relaxes, and our breathing slows down. To our body, this sudden change in pulse and body relaxation is a sign of dying, and that’s why our brain decides to wake us up with an electric shock-like jolt.

See? Our body is way more protective of us than we give it credit for.

Sunny (Leone) Days Are Here Again!

Sumita Chakraborty talks to the fabulous Sunny Leone exclusively for Couponraja (TheRoyale) about marriage, Bollywood, Shah Rukh and more

She’s every man’s fantasy come true. She is the very HOT Sunny Leone! Her oomph quotient is the talk of the town especially seen in her new item song ‘Laila Main Laila’ in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’. In fact, the video has already crossed over 75 million hits on YouTube and …still counting.

Meeting Sunny

Sunny calls us to a suburban 5-star hotel for an interview or a “cosy chat” as she calls it. But when we land there, she is still busy shooting for the cover of a magazine.  “20 minutes. Please!” She tells us apologetically. Not a problem, we say as we spend time talking to her amazing husband, Daniel Weber. Daniel, by the way, is every journo’s fave as he manages Sunny’s work and hectic day-to-day schedule. He is the one who schedules interviews and shoots for her.

Daniel, Sunny’s husband

Born in the USA, Daniel is originally from Israel and has even served in the army there at the age of 17. A musician, he has a rock band where he is the singer and the lead guitarist. He is also a hard-nosed businessman. Cool and composed, he is a treasure trove of information about everything – from the USA, Donald Trump, travelling to secluded places in the world, making your business a success… Very interesting!

My Husband Is My Rock

Sunny Leone wouldn’t be here today if Daniel wasn’t there. He made Sunny Leone who she is! He is my best friend, my support, my rock… everything” quips Sunny as she joins us at the table. Dressed in an emerald velvet jacket, black vest and black pants, she looks absolutely gorgeous. We ask her, “So it’s been six years of marriage for you?” Sunny grins and looks lovingly at Daniel, and says, “Yes, six years of marriage and three years of dating – nine years – and it’s been absolutely wonderful!” And Sunny goes on to give her take on marriage and Bollywood…

Secret To A Happy Marriage

Sunny leone husband daniel webber @TheRoyaleIndia

“I think its mutual respect. Daniel and I have always respected each other as individuals. Yes, love makes the world go ‘round. But it’s respect that is the backbone of any relationship. Of course, Daniel and I do argue – we are husband and wife, after all! But we argue, fight, laugh and makeup almost immediately. Also, even in our worst arguments, we have never crossed the line. One should remember that harsh words are like bullets, once you utter them, it causes devastation! And you can’t take the words back, so the wound never gets healed. So, I think it’s essential for every couple to remember never to cross the line.”

The First Meeting

Daniel and I met at his music concert. And he wooed me with flowers, CDs, chocolates. We were dating for three years when he popped the question. And I, of course, said ‘yes’. And from then on, marriage has been a wonderful partnership. I’m actually living with my best friend who is also my husband. It’s a great space.”

Marriage Mantras

“I lost both my parents but Daniel has filled the void. He is always there for me. We discuss everything under the sky. In fact, everything I do, Daniel takes the call. He looks after all the nitty-gritties while I am just happy to concentrate on my acting.”

Bollywood Moments

Sunny leone bollywood @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: ibtimes.com

“When I entered Bollywood, I actually didn’t have a clue about anything. Who the actors, producers, directors were… I was born and bred in Canada to Sikh parents. There, as kids, we watched Bollywood films, but we didn’t have a clue who the actors were, etc. But when Daniel and I came here, we treated everybody with respect – from the biggest to the not-so-big person. People here are wonderful. And thanks to Daniel, I haven’t been exposed to anything nasty. Of course, I do have to work harder than most actors because when I first arrived, I didn’t know Hindi. We spoke Punjabi at home. So I got myself a Hindi tutor, brushed up on my acting skills and dialogue delivery. I am not a very good dancer, but I learnt dancing. Yes, a lot of hard work has gone into becoming an actor here.”

Working With Shah Rukh Khan

Sunny leone shah rukh khan raees @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: urbanasian.files.wordpress.com

“Shah Rukh is honestly one of the nicest persons here. He is courteous – wherever he meets Daniel and me – he goes out of his way to come and talk to us. When I was offered ‘Laila Main Laila’, I was absolutely over the moon. And the song is really nice too. I believe it’s already doing very well, so I’m really glad!”

With those words, the interview comes to an end. Sunny says bye with a hug. With her positive attitude and sunny demeanour, Sunny Leone will definitely rule… if not the Bollywood dicey number ranking, but definitely the hearts of the people!

SEVEN SMART WAYS TO PUT DOWN THAT SMARTPHONE & GET RID OF THE ADDICTION

Although that didn’t happen, mental health professionals all over the world, including those in our very own NIMHANS in Bengaluru have expressed grave concern over the Smartphone addiction. This obsession seems to be afflicting people of all ages: right from pre-schoolers who refuse to eat unless they are handed their iPad, to adults who can’t sleep without checking their Facebook News Feed first. If you are aware of your smartphone addiction or have friends & family nagging you for checking your smartphone at the dinner table, then here are a few simple yet effective ways to curb your addiction and slowly and steadily completely rid yourself of it:

1. Use an extremely long unlock password

Tips to overcome- smartphone addiction long password @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: amazonaws.com

Include small and capital letters, numbers, and characters. When you have an annoyingly long phone unlock password, you will be deterred to check your smartphone repeatedly. After all, who wants to type out a 20-character long password just to see what the Kardashians have posted on Instagram? However, if your work requires you to make calls from your smartphone frequently, you could set passwords for your most used apps instead of a common phone unlock password. We don’t want you to get fired by the boss just because you take too long to dial a number, do we?

2. Create delays

tips overcome smartphone addiction keep-away while sleeping @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: androidauthority.net

We, psychologists, swear by this one. You can restrict your smartphone usage by simply making it not-so-easy-to-reach at all times. Before bed, keep the devil’s device (read smartphone) on the other side of the bed in a place that is farther from you. This way, even if you feel the urge to check WhatsApp, you will feel less inclined once you realise that it will require you to get up from the bed and walk a few steps. Another way is to keep the phone in a desk drawer at work, lock it, and carry on with your work. If you are doing this, ensure that you have no embarrassing ringtones as your phone will ring for quite a bit before you can reach it! If you want to create some creative delays for yourself, just think what you would do to annoy a younger sibling from getting their hands on their smartphone… the ideas will flow!

3. Witty & wise wallpapers

overcome smartphone addiction thorugh quirky wallpapers @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: applecenter.pl

How about a lock screen wallpaper that says, “Do you really need to check your phone?” Or maybe a wallpaper of an expensive pair of shoes that you want to buy but for which you need to focus on your work and NOT keep checking your phone.

4. Delete social media apps

overcome smartphone addiction delete social media apps @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: lockerdome.com

The “root of all problems in your life”, as your mother would say. Delete Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter and see how much time you save that can be used for other productive endeavours like finishing your assignments on time, making all the work calls, writing out the grocery list, etc. Take out the root, take out the problem. Mums all over the world will now be happy unless they are the ones with the smartphone addiction.

5. Limit the number of notifications

Tips to overcome-smartphone addiction limit notification @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: amazonaws.com

Be it Android, iOS, or Windows; all operating systems allow you to customise the kind of notifications you receive from the various apps installed on your smartphone. You see one notification from Gmail flash on your screen, you check it out, and before you know it, you have also checked your 7 Facebook updates, know about Trump’s latest shenanigans, commented on what your sister’s husband’s cousin’s mother-in-law wore to the wedding. The point is, once you check your phone to see one notification, you will end up seeing many unnecessary ones. Limit the notifications to phone calls, text messages, emails, and any other IMPORTANT & URGENT apps.

6. Make use of productivity apps- App detox, Rescue time, etc.

overcome smartphone addiction rescue time apps @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: zapier.cachefly.net

Yes, it sounds counterintuitive, but if you have the right apps, they aid you in your smartphone de-addiction. Apps like Rescue Time, App Detox, etc. collect data on how much time you spend on each app, how many tasks you have been able to strike off your t-do list and give you a realistic and concrete picture of your unnecessary smartphone usage. When numbers come into play it is easier to accept your addiction, agreed?

7. Reward yourself for fair usage and punish if…

Tips to overcome-smartphone addiction reward punishment @TheRoyaleIndia

Some psychology research says that rewards work better than punishments while some say otherwise. Experiment to see which one works better for you. Reward yourself for not checking Facebook for more than twice a day with an extra scoop of ice-cream at dinner, or punish yourself for watching five random YouTube videos by pinching yourself hard.

So, are you ready to go offline?

While the first instalment of the movie features Arshad Warsi as the lead playing a lawyer fighting a hit-and-run case, this time director Subhash Kapoor ropes in Akshay Kumar to take the prime spot.

Back in 2013, Jolly LLB was a huge hit with a clever storyline that highlighted India’s judicial system. Thanks to Arshad Warsi who dominated the centre stage with his mind-blowing performance.

Jolly LLB 2 Akshay Vs Arshad warsi Jolly LLB @TheRoyaleIndia

In the midst of the excitement of the release, there have been several speculations as to why Arshad Warsi was replaced by Akshay Kumar. But, hey! Let’s not bother too much about who’s saying what, and instead, have a look at what Akshay has in store for his fans. So, here we go.

Akshay Kumar plays a struggling lawyer named Jagdeeshwar Mishra aka Jolly who is still looking for a big break. He believes that money is the answer to every problem in life, and would do whatever it takes to win a case. But, you always have something or somebody forming a hurdle in your way when you mind your business, Jagdeeshwar Mishra isn’t an exception, with Judge Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla) and lawyer Mathur (Annu Kapoor) forming the unwanted obstacles.

Overall, Jolly LLB seems to be a serious movie with a sprinkle of humour. The dialogue delivery in the movie is perfect, with some of them sure to last in your mind for weeks. And of course, with biggies like Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor on-board, you can surely expect something truly amazing. Adding up to the excitement is Akshay Kumar’s accurate comic timing, which turns out to be the heart of the storyline.

To conquer the heights is indeed no mean feat. But more and more women have conquered their fear of heights and have taken to conquer the lofty mountains. The pioneer to start this in India was Bachendri Pal who climbed Mountain Everest and proved that she was indeed the queen of the mountains. Inspired by her lofty feat, many women have followed her footstep including amputee Arunima Sinha, Premlata Agarwal, Malavath Purna, Tashi and Nungshi Malik.

For women who want to be a mountaineer, there are mountaineering courses starting from Basic to advance. India has four institutes including Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and Atal Behari Vajpayee Institute Of Mountaineering. Once you become a full-fledged mountaineer, the money comes in the form of grants and trusts, and you do end up taking home a pretty package.

The late Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams paved the way, and more women are opting to become astronauts these days. In fact, NASA has confirmed that an equal number of women enter this field. It’s not really rocket science but of course, the path to become an astronaut is definitely rocky. You have to go through different levels to become a space rockstar. But once you conquer all the obstacles, the sky is the limit.

BILLION RUPEE FILMS IN THE COUNTRY OF A BILLION PEOPLE: EIGHT MOST EXPENSIVE INDIAN FILMS

We sure love the grand movies that our Indian cinema has to offer, year after year. Historical locations, extensive sets, star-studded cast, and the wish to show bigger-than-life stories is what makes the following Indian films so expensive:

1. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – 180 crores

Most expensive Bollywood movies prem ratan dhan payo @TheRoyaleIndia

You know there will be family values, lots of drama, elaborate song sequences, cheesy dialogue, and a massive budget when the director’s Sooraj Barjatya. Salman Khan & Sonam Kapoor came together in this collaborative initiative by Fox Star Studios and Rajshri Productions as a royal soon-to-be couple. Vibrant scenes, palatial sets, and two Salman Khans are what made this movie cost Rs.180 crores and gross over Rs.400 crores.

2. Dhoom 3 – Rs. 175 crores

There is no doubt why the third instalment of the immensely successful Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom series was such an expensive affair. With a star cast comprising of Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan, and Uday Chopra who attempt to upend each other in the stunning (and expensive!) locations of United States & Switzerland, Rs.175 crores is a reasonable movie budget.

Grossing over Rs.535 crores worldwide, it also became one of the biggest Bollywood grosser of all time.

3. Bang Bang! – 160 crores

Yet another Fox Star Studios’ film, this Katrina Kaif- Hrithik Roshan starrer is an official remake of the Cameron Diaz- Tom Cruise starrer Knight & Day. A movie that includes action, thrill, romance, and comedy comes with a heavy price tag, especially when all of this is happening in foreign locales of Greece, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, and Prague with action directors of international repute.

4. Happy New Year – 150 crores

Shah Rukh Khan stars in it and his wife produces it. Thankfully, going over budget would not cause a rift in this household! A musical heist film by the highly entertaining director, Farah Khan, HNY was panned by the critics but did commercially well (Rs.343 crores). SRK is joined by Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah in this revenge film.

5. Bajirao Mastani – 145 crores

Most expensive Bollywood movies bajirao mastani @TheRoyaleIndia

An epic historical love story directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has even produced the film along with Eros International, Bajirao Mastani is nothing if not majestic. Elaborate period costumes, massive, detailed sets, hundreds of on-ground extras, two Bollywood megastars, and a Bollywood+ Hollywood star are the reason behind the film’s high budget and even higher box office earnings of over Rs.358 crores.

6.Sultan – 140 crores

Another Yash Raj Films’ venture, the Salman Khan- Anushka Sharma love story about two wrestlers made almost four times the money that it spent on its making. If rumours are to be believed, about Rs.50 crores of the budget of the movie was reserved as Khan’s acting fee. Since it was a Yash Raj Films’ production, you can safely assume that every piece of equipment, technology, and set prop was unmatched in quality- hence the high budget.

7. Kick – 140 crores

It seems like whatever Salman Khan touches or stars in, comes with a big price tag and a bigger box-office collection. The 2014 film produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name. Again, Salman Khan’s fee combined with outdoor shooting schedules in South Korea, Poland, and Scotland resulted in an extremely high movie budget and an entry into the list of most expensive movies of this decade.

8. Mohenjo Daro – 138 crores

Most expensive Bollywood movies mohenjodaro @TheRoyaleIndia

When Ashutosh Gowariker makes a film, you can expect perfection. And perfection comes with a cost… Rs. 138 crores to be exact. The film sees the suave Hrithik Roshan as a young man in the glorious city of Mohenjo Daro in 2016 B.C. This is where the budget of Rs.138 crores comes into play. High-end CGI and expansive sets built in an attempt to recreate the once important city of the Indus Valley Civilisation require funds and the film’s budget provided for that.

Most expensive Indian movies robot endhiran baahubali @TheRoyaleIndia

Bollywood isn’t the only Indian film industry to have expensive budgets north of Rs.100 crores; Tollywoods Endhiran, starring the semi-god Rajinikanth & Aishwarya Rai reportedly had a budget of Rs. 132 crores while Tollywoods biggest blockbuster, Baahubali: The Beginning, had a budget of Rs. 120 crores.

These figures put the Rs.400-ticket price that we consider high for a movie in perspective, don’t they? But, if you still feel that the Rs.400-ticket is pretty heavy on your pocket, do make use of the incredible BookMyShow offers to crack the best deals.

He mesmerised kids and adults alike as Captain Vyom in the 90s with his super stunts and action-packed sequences. If you saw the Milind Soman of today, you would still believe he can pull off all those action scenes with élan; such is his fitness! At the age of 51, Milind Soman is not only a good-looking actor but also a fitness activist.

Milind Soman Iron Man @TheRoyaleIndia

You may have swooned over his chiselled good looks in music videos, TV shows, and films but for so many more women (and men!), it was his well-earned title of ‘Ironman’ in 2015 that made him the star that he is recognised for today. Completing the world’s toughest triathlon in 15 hours and 19 minutes, Milind Soman faced obstacles such as a 3.8km swim, 180.2km cycling, and 42.2km run to become one of only a few hundred to have completed that non-stop challenge.

Milind Soman Cycling @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: bornofweb.com

For most of us, this would’ve seemed like the final step of the fitness challenge. However, for our Indian superhero, this was just another milestone in his journey to ultimate fitness. His latest conquest, the Ultraman Florida’s 3-day ‘Ultra-Endurance Event’ which concluded on the 19th of February, showed the world what a combination of grit & glamour looks like! Soman completed the 517.5km race and emerged as an ‘Ultraman’!!! What exactly did he have to do to become ‘Ultraman’, you ask? Double of the ‘Ironman’ race… double the swim, double the cycling, double the run, and double the glory. The only racer to run barefoot, the Fear Factor star took 34 hours and 46 minutes to complete the gruelling race.

Milind Soman Pinkathon @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: fbcdn.net

An actor, fitness freak, and a social activist, the man behind Pinkathon, India’s biggest women’s run, has a few simple, uncomplicated life tips that will help you gain a better perspective on life. Yes, he advocates eating a healthy meal and sleeping early, but that’s not all that he does. Read on to find out what Milind Soman believes makes for a healthy life…

  • He believes that a positive mind is what keeps your body fit. Focus on positive thoughts in the head, and it shall transcend to your whole body.

  • He doesn’t believe in diligently dieting or sweating it out in the gym. A few minutes of exercise in the midst of nature, and wholesome Indian meals are all you need for a healthy mind and body.

  • Being able to run marathons and lift enough weights to be eligible for the Olympics is not being “fit”, according to Captain. He believes that being fit is being able to deal with life in a positive way.

Milind Soman Quote @TheRoyaleIndia
  • He wants you to respect your body and treat it as you would treat a Ferrari. Now that makes everything so much clearer, doesn’t it!!?

  • There are no shortcuts to good health. Honest hard work is the only way to a sustainable fit body. No crash diets. No excessive slogging. Just good ol’ hard work is what Soman recommends.

  • Being of the belief that sugar is poison for us, he urges people to quit refined sugar completely and stick to healthy substitutes like honey or jaggery.

Boys and girls, these are the golden words (rephrased, of course!) of the man himself, be sure to follow them for a healthier lifestyle!

Although La La Land won twice the number of awards that Moonlight did, it was the latter that managed to win the Best Picture Award in the end with its gripping adaptation of Tarell McCraney’s play ‘In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue’. Due to a miscommunication, La La Land was originally announced as the best movie which was later rectified, making Moonlight win the award. Here’s Are the Top Five Movies to watch out for in the month of March

February was quite a weak month as far as films were concerned. With an exception of Jolly LLB 2 and The Lego Batman, the month did not see any particularly good movies. But there’s always more movies to come if we keep looking ahead. And that’s what we will do as we watch out for the most entertaining movies to expect in the month of March. Here’s Royale’s recommendation for the movies hitting the theatres in the coming month!

1. Logan – 3rd March

Movies releasing in march 2017 Logan wolverine @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: areyouscreening.com

Prepare yourself for yet another R-rated comic-book movie after Deadpool. But where Deadpool was an expletive-laden comedy film with over-the-top violence, the latest (and probably the last) Wolverine movie is touted to be a pure drama with extreme violence and hefty emotional weight. Logan, coming out on 3rd March, has Hugh Jackman bidding adieu to his most iconic role. One which he played a record nine times in different movies. The trailers for Logan garnered the right amount of interest, and initial screenings have reviewers hailing it as the best comic book movie after The Dark Knight. Now that’s some serious praise. All aboard the hype train?

2. Badrinath Ki Dulhania – 10th March

Movies releasing in march badrinath ki dulhania @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: firstreview.info

Shashank Kaitan’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya was a sweet little film that perfectly balanced the old with the new by bringing DDLJ-like charm and putting a fresh spin on it. Never once did it feel derivative or clichéd. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan delivered the sparks, and the much-missed Ashutosh Rana was beautifully understated. But can Dharma Productions and Shashank repeat the same? Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, the sequel to the first film, will be out on 10th March. Initial promos clearly show that the lead stars are now playing different characters and the story is not really a direct sequel.

3. Beauty and the Beast – 17th March

Movies releasing in march beauty and the beast @TheRoyaleIndia

The famous French fairy tale has been adapted yet again for the big screen; but this time, it’s a live action movie. Beauty and the Beast has seen many adaptations in the past, most of which were plays and animated movies.

It will be refreshing to see a live-action adaptation where Beauty will be played by the luminous teen heartthrob Emma Watson. The role seems tailor-made for her, and she looks stunning in the trailers. Book your tickets using BookMyShow offers and watch it on the big screen on the 17th March.

4. Phillauri – 24th March

Movies releasing in march 2017 phillauri @TheRoyaleIndia

We can always expect Anushka Sharma to choose unconventional films. After her amazing turn in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Anushka Sharma is back in ‘Phillauri’, a romantic comedy with a twist.

Phillauri Movie releasing in march 2017 @TheRoyaleIndia

Anushka Sharma plays a friendly spirit who bothers a young man (Suraj Sharma). This young man, following the advice of his well-wishers, marries a tree (for Manglik dosha) to keep his love life away from harm. Looks like quite a quirky plot and if executed well, could prove successful.

5. Anarkali of Aarrah – 24th March

Movies releasing in march anarkali of arrah @TheRoyaleIndia

Source: hindustantimes.com

Anarkali of Arrah is a story set in the town of Arrah in Bihar. The leading lady is the ever-effervescent Swara Bhaskar, who plays the titular Anarkali, an erotic singer with a penchant for double-meaning songs. Based on the first look, the film looks like an earthy, textured film filled with the flavours of Bihar. Watch it for Swara Bhaskar, who regularly steals scenes from leading ladies while always playing supporting roles. Let’s see how she does on her own on the 24th of March.

So, there we have it. Be ready to book your tickets because these five films are sure to set the box office on fire!

WHEN BOLLYWOOD DIALOGUES REFLECT YOUR LIFE: SIX LINES THAT YOU CAN RELATE TO

$

Source: bookmyshow.com

It doesn’t matter whether you belong to the generation of baby boomers or millennials, if you’re an Indian, there will be an innate Bollywood-ness in you. Right from aping the fashion style of the latest superstar to mouthing cheesy dialogues from cult classics, our lifestyle reflects the filminess in us. Who hasn’t gone all Shotgun Shatrughan Sinha and said, “Khamosh”, when expressing filmy anger?

Listed here are some such quintessential Bollywood dialogues that we connect to and perhaps, smile when we hear:

1. DDLJ- Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Choti Choti Baatein Hoti Rahti Hain.

Movie dialogues that teach life lessons DDLJ

Who hasn’t found themselves smiling when Shah Rukh Khan’ Raj Malhotra casually says this dialogue in response to the little problems that Kajol’s Simran and he are facing? Our lives are a series of ups and downs, and this simple yet profound dialogue from one of Bollywood’s most iconic films is what keeps us going. So, next time you break a glass or go through a breakup (not trivialising the issue!) think about what SRK says…

2. Jab We Met– “Jo kuch insaan real mein chahta hai..actual mein..use wahi milta hai!”

Movie dialogues that teach life lessons jab we met

This is one film that gave us a lot of life gyaan… Right from Geet’s zest for life to her belief that you get what you truly want, this Imtiaz Ali film has inspired a complete generation to take chances and follow their heart’ desire. This dialogue, especially, is reminiscent of the Paulo Coelho line in The Alchemist which says that when you want something from the bottom of your heart, the whole universe conspires to get it for you. This is a belief that will get you going in the toughest of times, simply keep the faith.

3. Munnabhai MBBS-Tension Lene ka nahi, dene ka

Movie dialogues that teach life lessons munna Bhai MBBS

For every person who worried a lot, there is a friend who is the exact opposite. This friend is the one who loves to dramatically give the best life advice- the Munnabhai one being one of them. We have many stressors in life; right from our maid not turning up on time to the Syrian crisis, we are worried about everything. While some problems do require our attention, some others are not to be taken so seriously…and this is where we need to remember Munna & Circuit’s wise words.

4. Dil Chahta Hai– “Pyaar soch samajhkar nahi Kiya jaata…bas ho jaata hai

Movie dialogues that teach life lessons dil chahta hai

Akshaye Khanna’s character truly believes this and rightly so… we all know of someone or have been someone who has “fallen” in love rather than calculated our relationship. Love knows no caste or creed, no discriminating barriers… it happens when it happens…and even if you cannot unite with that love, you can relate to Aamir Khan’s dialogue from the same film, “aaj Pooja, kal koi dooja”!

5. DDLJ-Jaa Simran Jaa, jee le apni zindagi.”

DDLJ Movie dialogues that teach life lessons simran jeele zindagi

When your otherwise conservative father allows you to stay out and party until the wee hour of the morning, every time that you drop your best friend at the airport, and every time that you melodramatically hand over the remote to your sibling, this Amrish Puri line from the rom-com of the 90s comes to mind. You may not want to run the length of a virtually unending railway platform, but being told to live the way you want, being “allowed” to live the way you want is a permission that most people still seek from their loved ones.

6. Karan Arjun-Mere Karan Arjun aayenge.”

Movie dialogues that teach life lessons karan arjun

Dramatising it the way Rakhi does in the film is close to impossible, but the feeling is pretty much present. Be it optimistically waiting for your friend at the coffee shop for over an hour or waiting for your favourite TV show character’s comeback (no, we don’t mean Mihir Virani!), this is an oft-used filmy dialogue. The faith that Rakhi’s character shows can be symbolic of our wait for something good to happen in our lives… our Karans and Arjuns.

Any self-respecting Bollywood fan swears by their love for these resonating cult dialogues. Do you?
